    Posted On: Apr 13, 2016

    Sisters and Brothers,

Most of you know by now that Columbus PD SWAT Officer Steven Smith has passed away after being shot over the weekend during service of a felony warrant.

We will keep you up to date on services and their times/places.

Below, you can read the statements made by President Pappas of Lodge 9 and President McDonald of the FOP of Ohio.

The FOP will continue to honor our heroes, like Officer Smith. We will continue to press for legislation that makes us safer and against any bill that does not. We will continue to fight on behalf of law enforcement officers because if we do not, who will? We will always remember our fallen brothers and sisters, ALWAYS.

On Behalf of Fraternal Order of Police Capital City Lodge #9 President Jason Pappas:

"The men and women of FOP Lodge #9 are deeply saddened by the tragic line of duty death of our brother Officer Steven Smith. Steven left for work Saturday night and his family expected he would be home safe and sound in a matter of hours. Sadly, he was murdered while working with fellow officers to serve an arrest warrant. We mourn the loss of this brave man and ask everyone to prayer for his family, friends and co-workers."

On Behalf of Ohio Fraternal Order of Police President Jay McDonald:

"Officer Steven Smith was no stranger to the dangers of police work; in fact, he was shot in the line of duty in 2013. While others might have turned away, he heroically returned to duty. Now Officer Smith joins a long, tragic list of police lost in the line of duty. The 25,000 members of the Fraternal Order of Police of Ohio will never forget Officer Smith and we join his family and friends in celebrating his life and service while mourning his senseless death."
